We have access to state-of-the-art diagnostic procedures and advanced imaging and support from other specialist teams in our multidisciplinary referral hospital. We can offer a complete service to treat all conditions affecting teeth and the oral cavity. With access to intensive care specialist and comprehensive hospitalisation facilities, we can effectively support patients with long-term and complicated care requirements.

We are happy to accept referred cases in all dentistry and oral facial surgery including:

Treatment of periodontal disease (gum disease) remains the most common oral and dental problem of our dog and cat companions. In selected cases are we can consider periodontal surgery to save strategically important teeth. Close cooperation with specialist from internal medicine, cardiology and anaesthesia helps to assure that age or comorbidity are seldom enough reason to not treat painful conditions of the mouth and teeth of especially older patients.

Variation in jaw length and position of individual teeth can affect the relationship between teeth and soft tissue of opposing jaws. This condition is described as malocclusion and cause significant discomfort and damage to the tissues involved. Orthodontic treatment includes the various treatment options that we can use to address these problems, to ensure a comfortable and functional bite.

More than 90% discoloured canine teeth of dogs have devitalised pulps. Teeth that are discoloured or have fractured crowns usually requires treatment. Crown fractures that exposes the pulp (the living soft tissue within the root canal) will cause Infection of the pulp and will almost inevitably lead to tooth associated abscesses. The only treatment options to consider for teeth affected in this way is either root canal treatment or extraction.

Root canal treatment (endodontic treatment) of animal teeth follows the same principles as those used in human patients: the shape and size of the teeth varies slightly though! Root canal treatment is an effective alternative to extraction for most fractured and discoloured teeth.

Some damaged crowns, either enamel defects, caries, superficial fractures or wear, can be restored to prevent pain and prevent further damage. Such damage or injury of the tooth crown surface can be restored using dental materials or in selected cases the placement of a prosthetic crown, can be considered.

A few conditions appear to affect cats more than dogs. Feline chronic gingivostomatitis (FCGS) causes painful inflammation and ulceration of the oral cavity. These challenging cases are managed by multiple extractions and usually medical treatment.

Tooth resorption causes painful damage to teeth and without intraoral radiography it is impossible to decide on the best treatment options.

We can undertake complicated tooth extractions, often because of extended procedures or in patients with a hight risk of complications, or the presence of fractured root remnants.

XO contexts (complicated extractions of teeth and retained root remnants)

We frequently repair cleft lips and palates an oral nasal fistula.

Many jaw fractures can be repaired using non invasive intraoral splinting techniques but advanced surgical jaw fracture repair methods can also be employed.

Oral surgery for orofacial reconstruction after traumatic injury, or excision of orofacial cancers, can be undertaken. This often involves close cooperation with specialist of the advanced Imaging, surgery and oncology teams. These same colleagues are involved in the effective investigation and treatment oral and maxillofacial cancers. This usually involves surgical resection and might include additional chemotherapy or immunotherapy and longer term care by oncology specialists.

Swellings of the face and mouth can be, but are not always, tooth associated abscesses. With easy access to specialists from imaging, ophthalmology and oncology to help, we can confidently investigate and treat all of these swellings.

Most oral and dental procedures involves some for of medical management and some refractory cases require longer term oral medicine.

"Dr Putter from dentistry gave us so much of his precious time to thoroughly explain everything about what would happen and how he would approach helping our cat. Even upon pickup, Dr Putter went out of his way to make sure we had all of our questions answered. We were so incredibly happy with the outcome and the whole process with DWR. "
