We are so proud to have been awarded silver accreditation by Investors in the Environment (iiE), a nationwide initiative which encourages businesses to introduce cleaner, more sustainable and environmentally friendly ways of working.
Among the many green measures we have introduced, not only in our large new hospital building, but across the site was the implementation of a process to significantly reducing medication waste and the creation of a travel policy to understand and manage our environmental impact.
The iiE was also keen to highlight that we achieved the silver accolade alongside our major expansion but still managed to drive down our consumption of electricity and isoflurane gas, by fostering great team engagement.
The new hospital expansion has a wealth of environmental features including acoustic panelling on the walls, which is made from 100% recycled material and reception pods that are made from recycled yoghurt pots and can be 100% recycled at end of their life.
Kerry Hall, part of our ‘Green Team’ has undertaken the iiE Green Champion course and Carbon Literacy Training to share knowledge across the team.
Gemma Reeve, our Head of Clinical Governance, who assists and oversees our ‘Green Team’ said “When it comes to sustainability it is important that we back up our words with actions as we recognise the need for the business to be as environmentally friendly as possible.
Further green initiatives at DWR include greatly improving communication with internal stakeholders, which has seen staff engagement grow over the last year. We’re very proud to have achieved silver accreditation by Investors in the Environment but we won’t stop here and will continue to look for ways to further reduce our environmental impact.”
