One of our dedicated Patient Care Assistant’s Ryan Densley completed a marathon charity walk at the weekend in memory of his mum who died from cancer.
He completed The South Coast Mighty Hike, which is a full-length marathon of 26.2 miles, in just over nine hours. It is the second Macmillan Cancer Support marathon he has completed, the first being in Suffolk last year.
Ryan said: “It was the hardest challenge of my life so far, with so many hills and in 30-degree heat. It was also a real struggle as I have cystic fibrosis but I managed to somehow complete the walk in exactly 9 hours and 10 mins. I’m truly so proud of myself for making it all way to the finish and doing it in honour of my mum, who I lost 12 years ago.”
Ryan decided the South Downs was a fitting choice to pay tribute to his mum as she was born in the south coast city of Brighton.
Ryan added: “Brighton is a place I love to be. It was my mum’s hometown and also where I scattered her ashes in 2016.
“This walk really felt like my mum, Susan, was walking right next to me and helped get me to the finish line.”
