Working as a referral veterinary nurse means that you can experience the many services within our multi-disciplinary hospital.

DWR is the largest hospital in Europe with incredible facilities and 16 disciplines, including Dentistry, Ophthalmology, Emergency and Critical Care (ECC) and Cardiothoracic surgery (one of only 3 in the world).

Our nursing team ensures that every animal within our care has a comfortable and seamless recovery, helping each patient adapt to their procedure's effects and managing and monitoring their treatments.
What can we offer you as a referral nurse?
At DWR, we have a large team of Registered Veterinary Nurses (RVNs), Student Veterinary Nurses (SVNs), Patient Care Assistants (PCAs) and Technicians, all working together to provide the best care possible to our patients.
What we can offer you:
- Multi-disciplinary roles in a friendly collaborative team
- Focusing nursing roles in a dedicated disciplinary area, where you can develop the required skills to a high standard and learn in a department that you are particularly passionate for such as Anaesthesia, Neurology or Surgery
- There is an on-site canteen and staff welfare spaces for comfort and wellbeing.
A dedicated team with experienced discipline-specific nurses
Working alongside our multi-disciplinary team of Specialists, Residents and Interns, our nursing team includes nurses who focus on a range of specialisms giving you the opportunity to specialise in an area you're most interested in. These areas include Anaesthesia, Cardiology, Dermatology, Dentistry, Diagnostic Imaging, Internal Medicine, Oncology, theatre and surgical nursing.
We also have a team of multi-disciplinary nurses who work across all of our services, providing an opportunity for variety if you're keen to work across all disciplines.
We are also a training hospital with student nurses and post-registration programme nurses working alongside our team.

Lisa Lungley, Deputy Night Nurse Manager said "Referral veterinary nursing has huge highs but also a number of lows with the sick pets we care for. There are the patients who we may only look after for one night and the ones who stay with us for many weeks, but I take great pride in the fact that whilst those animals are under my care that they feel as safe, loved and cared for as they would cuddled up with their owners at home.”
